Band in CCSD 89

    Community Consolidated School District 89 students can join band starting in fifth grade, and can continue in the program through eighth grade.


    Fifth-grade beginning band

    This band is made up of CCSD 89 students who are in fifth grade. Beginning in October and continuing most Thursdays through mid-December, all beginning band members will rehearse together at Glen Crest in the band room from 4 to 4:45 p.m. These rehearsals are in preparation for the performance at the winter band concert.

    At the elementary schools, students have a group lesson for 30 minutes once a week. The lessons are taught during the school day at the same class time each week.

    Thursday afternoon rehearsals will resume in March in preparation for the spring band concert in May.


    Sixth-grade concert band

    This band is mostly made up of students in the sixth grade who have completed one year on their instrument. It rehearses three days per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Rehearsal times are during the 7th period ACE.  Students must also attend a weekly small-group lesson. These lessons are on a rotating schedule. If a scheduling conflict arises, students should notify their band director to re-schedule their sectional.


    7/8th grade symphonic band

    This band consists mostly of students in seventh and eighth grades who have completed two years on their instrument.  It rehearses three days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Rehearsal times are 7:10 – 7:45 a.m.  In addition, students must attend a weekly small-group lesson. These are on a rotating schedule, and students with a scheduling conflict should notify their band director to set up a different time.
