Seventh and eighth grade curriculum night is Thursday, September 16th beginning at 7:00 P.M. in the upper gym.  An eighth grade parent meeting pertaining to the EXPLORE test will begin at 6:15 P.M.  See below for more information on EXPLORE.  Conference sign-up is different from the sixth grade sign-up.  Sign-up for seventh and eighth grade conferences is done on-line beginning October 1.

No Before of After School Library

We will no longer to able to offer before or after school library hours.  The aide who supervised the library during these times had a reduction of hours in her position.  That reduction directly impacted before and after school library supervision.  As needed, individual teachers may choose to supervise specific classes before and after school.

Eighth Grade Explore Testing

Eighth graders will be taking the EXPLORE test yo help deterine placement into freshman classes on Saturday, October 16th, 2010.  Students should arrive at Glen Crest by 8:15 A.M.  Students will complete all testing by 11:45 A.M., at which time parents need to pick up their son or daughter.

 Fee-Based Busing

Did you know that you can pay for busing if you live in an area that is not bused.  There are obviously some restrictions.  One of which is that you have to transport your child to and from  an existing bus stop.  The other is that once the upper limit of seating is reached, no more students will be added to a given bus route.  Below is the Board policy on fee-based busing and the request form.

Parent Guide to MAP Testing from NWEA

Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) is an assessment taken by 2nd through 8th graders in CCSD 89.  Students currently take assessments in Reading, Math and Language Arts.   Seventh grade also takes an assessment in science.  Assessments are given to all students in the fall, winter, and spring.  When taking a MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions.  As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult.  If the student answer incorrectly, the questions become easier.  In an optimal test, a student answers approximately half the items correctly and half incorrectly.  This concept is sometimes hard for middle school students to understand.  The final score is an estimate of the student’s achievement level.

Students receive an individual score, called a RIT score.  Individual growth goals are developed for each student based on his/her achievement.  This model of assessment is based on individual growth, rather reaching the same benchmark for each student.  By individualizing for each student, teachers are able to optimize learning and ensure every student is making progress.
